In this post I will highlight some of the research and thoughts on the subject from around the web, highlight how it has helped me and give you a couple of great tips if you are not keen on drinking water at all. I know that I didn't really like drinking tap water and would certainly not drink bottled water for various reasons that I'll explain later on.
Benefits of Drinking Water
4 Areas That Drinking Water Benefited Me
- Appetite
- Burning fat
- Metabolism
- Water retention
If you drink ice-cold water that can actually burn fat too. Although clinically incomplete there is promising research that drinking 4 cups of ice-cold water can burn around 20 calories. Not much, perhaps, but considering that you are not doing anything for the burn.
This in turn can lead to a speed up of your metabolism which helps with food digestion among other things.
The final, in this list at least, advantage is that drinking water can help with water retention which can make you look and feel bloated. Not optimal if you are trying to look and feel better through weight loss.
Tips to Drink More Water
- Keep a bottle of water in the fridge so it is readily available
- If you are not keen on the taste add some freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice
- Get yourself a SodaStream - to me sparkling water tastes so much better and this has far less impact on the environment than bottled water
Since water is such an important part of your lifestyle, dieting or not, it might be worth measuring just how much water you are taking in. Especially if you are on a diet.
