I still get quite a bit of traffic (relatively) to old posts about Apple TV running XBMC. Today I thought I’d shed some light on my current setup around the house. To be honest the hardware hasn’t changed much but the software has.
All media that I have in digital format are still served from my old Mac mini. Primarily since my music and video files are iTunes compatible. This is the first major talking point since my last posts on the subject.
So I have been using IFTTT (If This Then That) web site for a while to automate some of my Social Media posting, for example updating my blog here when I post a link on Facebook. After a certain amount of trial and error I think that I had it set up quite nicely however I just moved my site from Posterous to WordPress and there are obviously a few differences.
I noticed that it had been 3 months since my last XBMC update. The main reason for this is because I have been happily using XBMC on ATV2 for the past months with absolutely no issues. I was very please with its performance on the whole, some things were slow(ish) but it worked for my needs.
I had a nightly build from June sometime and I just thought “if it ain’t broke …” well you know the rest. As a regular visitor of the XBMC forums I know that there had been continued development work, especially it seemed for the ATV2, so I thought I would take the plunge and get an update.
This should have been such a big month for LG. Lots of people were eagerly awaiting information on the up-coming TV & Blu-ray products that , one thought given the press release in September last year, would contain Plex in some shape or form.
I for one was eagerly awaiting their Blu-ray announcements. CES a press releases and subsequent blog postings remained confusing to say the least.
2010 has been quite a geeky year for me though not all highlights have been really high tech.
First item on the list is a SodaStream. My parents had one of these when I was a child and we used to get our sugar rushes from cola and lemonades. However, after a trip to Outi & Rob’s this summer I decided it would be great to have soda on tap.
They have spring water coming out of their ears almost and I thought it would be ideal to be able to supplement other liquid intake with soda – I’m not a big fan of natural water.
