I wrote last year at this time that 2016 had been a bad year for me musically, and that 2017 was quite promising. Unfortunately, due to my financial situation my musical activities were very limited.
In post #2 of this two part series here are some snaps and the highlights of the Talvi Festivaali that took place in Kuopio and Joensuu in February 2017.
Almost 2 years ago to the day Danko Jones were promoting their latest album, Fire Music, on a boat cruising between Finland and Estonia. This time around another new album, Wild Cat and a new mini-festival with even more suitable stable mates – Backyard Babies and Hardcore Superstar.
February 2017 saw Danko Jones play 2 gigs in, the middle of nowhere, Finland. As part of the the #talvifestivaali, in Kuopio and Joensuu, Danko Jones & co headlined a 5 band event over 2 nights and we were there to see it all *.
As Wildcat is released today, what better time to reminisce on a great couple of days while listening to a the great new album by Danko Jones. You can get Wild Cat here!!
Picking a top 3 for live performances is perhaps harder than previous years since I have been spoiled for choice in the past. 2016 has been quite ropy and maybe my expectations have been too high for some of the acts.
In what has been a somewhat eclectic year for me for music selecting my top 3 albums should not be too hard. Since Last FM really fucked up their service last year though, I cannot show what my most played tracks or albums are.
However, my top LPs are mostly by female-fronted bands and my tastes don’t appear to have wavered much since last year.
I wrote back in July bemoaning the music scene in Finland in 2016. I found few gigs of any worth to go to and although there have been some great individual gigs, there really hasn’t been too much to write about – thus the relative inactivity of the blog this year. Are things about to take a turn for the better in 2017?
Nice review of Amaranthe’s latest album. I quite like their lead single “That Song” and really look forward to hearing the full album.
Hopefully a jaunt to Finland to promote the album is on the cards soon…
I’ve discovered a few new artists over the past couple of weeks, but I always seem to fall back to the old school in the end.
This is a new video from Tesla. One of my favorite bands and absolutely one of the best gigs I have ever been to back at the Shout It Out Loud festival.
I thought it would be hard for Nightwish to top their Ratina gig last year supporting their “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” album but again this was a overwhelming experience. I cannot give these guys enough credit for what was a fantastic performance and show.
