Over the past few weeks I have posted my top music based on Spotify, Last FM and my own preferences towards purchased music of 2014. This entry is all about my favourite tracks of the year.
After years of using paid music services such as Spotify, 2014 turned out to be a year where I bought more albums that probably the last five years combined. We are not talking high volume here so you could say that I’ve still been pretty selective in my purchasing.
Following on from the post about Spotify and how Tokio Hotel made it into my top 5 artists of 2014, here is the list according to Last FM.
December always seems to be the time for lists, so I will get my balls rolling [ :-)] with how Spotify thinks my year was.
So after a fairly nondescript year for live music in comparison to the past few years, 2015 looks to be turning into a classic one. Already announced in Finland are Amaranthe, Judas Priest, Nightwish and quite a few more gigs.
But for festivals two European dates stand out: Helfest 2015 and Sweden Rock. Quite a difficult choice.
For all my adult life I have been a fan of Mötley Crüe. They epitomised the sleazy glam rock genre perfectly and their band members seemed to live their life that way too.
This all changed during 1987 when Sixx (Nikki Sixx is the bassist) almost died from a heroin overdose. He subsequently cleaned up his act and wrote a book based on his journal entries called “The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star”.
This later became an album that was released in 2007 and Sixx A.M. was truly born (they were formed in 2006).
In September I got to see Reckless Love yet again. This is the second time this year and they never disappoint. You know exactly what you are going to get and they always deliver.
So months after seeing Within Temptation’s kick off gig for their Hydra European tour I finally bought the album. After a few weeks of pretty regular listening my thoughts about the album and the band are still inconclusive.
As I’ve been publishing mostly music posts over the past couple of months, I’ve decided to dig a bit deeper into the photo archives and share some Airbourne with you.
Airbourne are a no nonsense, balls-to-the-wall, AC/DC-esk hard rock band who I’ve been lucky enough to see twice so far in Finland. And I will go and see them again if they come back to this country.
