An Ensemble that won’t be Dead by April – Himos warm-up Bands

The organisers of the Linkin Park @ Himos Park event had arranged two warm-up bands. One Swedish band and one Finnish – with very contrasting styles.

Dead By April took to the stage first. Resplendent in their matching basketball outfits they certainly looked as if they were enjoying themselves.

Linkin Park Burn It Down @Himos

Linkin Park performed in front of around 8,000 enthusiastic (mostly) Finns in Himos Park, near Jämsä in central Finland. A great climax to what had been a good first concert of this magnitude at the venue.

There had been a few of the usual organisational hiccups that frequently happen in Finland but that was not enough to spoil was what a really good event.

I’ll do a summary of that in a follow up post, but below is a quick review of Linkin Park’s set.

Santa Cruz goes Pop

Have I lost seven months or is this for real? Santa Cruz, the “bad boys” of Finnish metal have just released a song with pop sensation Robin.

I saw a post on their Facebook page on Thursday saying that Friday was the day, but I couldn’t quite believe it. On Friday they posted links to Spotify, and other music streaming services, to the song.

What on earth is going on?

Rockin’ Ratina – Children Of Bodom Set the Tone

Second on stage of the all Finnish line-up for a Nightwish extravaganza at the Ratina Stadium were Children of Bodom.

I’d only heard a few of their songs previously, most of which were cover versions, and never really liked them to be honest. That was to change though after this performance.

Nothing But a Good Time – Local Band

Reminiscing on the super karaoke that was Def Leppard, the sing along aspect was surpassed by an excellent gig at Tavastia by The Local Band.

After the disappointment of the 100guitarsfromHEL event a few hours earlier, the band rocked their way through 14 classic rock covers that had the whole place jumping.

Nothing Like a Good Time – 100guitarsfromHEL

What a great concept. One of the greatest guitarists of modern rock gathers together 100 guitarists, composes a new tune to be played to a crowd on the steps on Helsinki Senate Square.

This great idea was ruined for me and thousands of others due to typically bad Finnish organization. What a disappointment.
