What a talented bunch of musicians there guys are. Reminiscent of the Scorpions in professionalism, they certainly did Rock The Night … though you couldn’t help thinking everyone was just waiting for “The Final Countdown”.
The banner on stage claimed WASP was celebrating 32 years. It’s a wonder they have lasted that long. OK, I guess WASP really is only Blackie Lawless.
Whatever their history, I found them pretty boring. They probably played OK, and it may be because I only really knew the band’s first couple of albums, but I lost interest pretty quickly and went on the hunt for more beer.
My words can barely explain the rush of H.E.A.T as they commanded the main stage at the South Park Festival. We saw them last year at the Shout it out Loud Festival and thought they would be worth paying a bit more attention to.
I Love Heavy Metal, and I love Reckless Love. I really do. I don’t know what it is about them, but they hit all the right notes for me.
Battle Beast kicked off the main stage events at the second day of the South Park Festival in Tampere for 2014 … in the pissing rain.
We’d just arrived as the rain started and it continued right through their set. Unfortunately for them, they were really the only main stage band affected.
The second stage or “tent” at South Park had quite a reasonable line up. Since it was where the beer was we did see quite a few of the bands.
The music was quite dark and very heavy. Most of it was a bit too “shouty” for my liking, and quite the opposite of the main stage artists – but it was a good atmosphere.
After the weeks of build up, the day I had been waiting for finally arrived. From the previous weekend and further back, counting the number of sleeps to the event, the excitement finally came to a head on Saturday with the South Park Festival in Tampere.
In upcoming posts I’ll share more pictures and thoughts about the performances. Today, however, I will share more general feelings about the event, the organization, the weather and how things pieced together.
This year has been looking a bit bleak for gigs or festivals so far. Simple Minds were terrific and Within Temptation … Well, I’m still feeling slightly disappointed with the whole thing: not that I wouldn’t go and see them again though.
Bill Bailey returns to Helsinki next week with his QUALMPEDDLER tour. We went to see him back in November 2013 and he was very entertaining.
I’ve digging through some of my old photos and came across this set of Paul Gilbert. It was such an unexpectedly good gig I decided to share these pictures and his cover version of Gary Moore’s “Still Got the blues”.
