2014 has been a somewhat mediocre year of live music for me. It started off very well with Simple Minds in January, but there haven’t really been that many really great gigs this year. However, here are my top 3 live bands I’ve seen this year from the list of possible “winners”.
After years of using paid music services such as Spotify, 2014 turned out to be a year where I bought more albums that probably the last five years combined. We are not talking high volume here so you could say that I’ve still been pretty selective in my purchasing.
So after a fairly nondescript year for live music in comparison to the past few years, 2015 looks to be turning into a classic one. Already announced in Finland are Amaranthe, Judas Priest, Nightwish and quite a few more gigs.
But for festivals two European dates stand out: Helfest 2015 and Sweden Rock. Quite a difficult choice.
For all my adult life I have been a fan of Mötley Crüe. They epitomised the sleazy glam rock genre perfectly and their band members seemed to live their life that way too.
This all changed during 1987 when Sixx (Nikki Sixx is the bassist) almost died from a heroin overdose. He subsequently cleaned up his act and wrote a book based on his journal entries called “The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star”.
This later became an album that was released in 2007 and Sixx A.M. was truly born (they were formed in 2006).
