What a truly awesome gig this was. I was unsure what to expect having heard nothing of Hand.. Cannot.. Erase.. Steven Wilson’s current album and reason for this tour.
However, it was very easy to get into the music and mixed with some classic PT and tributes to David Bowie this will be a difficult gig to top this year.
The second gig of the year was Steven Wilson – the main man from Porcupine Tree. I had known about this gig for quite a while but it really was a last minute decision to go and see him. In the end I am so glad that I did.
I knew nothing of the album, or any of his past releases. The Incident was the last PT associated album that I heard, and I was thoroughly impressed seeing that performed live back in 2009. And I was there.
As with the PT concert he played the whole of the promoted album, Hand. Cannot. Erase. , in the first half of the show. The real stand out track for me was Perfect Life – but there were quite a few tracks of note.
The second part of the show was more free style with a few Porcupine Tree tracks thrown in for good measure. Stand out had to be Lazarus to whom he dedicated to David Bowie. One track from Bowie’s last album was called Lazarus.
Encores included a full on tribute to Bowie – Space Oddity. This was pretty, pretty special. A fitting tribute.
Overall a great show in a busy venue – but we had a good view of this hard working musician. In fact, it was pretty obvious that the whole band were pretty talented musicians.
Well worth the entrance fee, and for those seeking reassurance whether to see him next time round: an unanimous thumbs up!!
