The opening track of Endless Forms Most Beautiful is Shudder Before the Beautiful.
Richard Dawkins says the opening lines and then the song really kicks off with thumping guitars. Full orchestral background make this up-tempo track a great intro.
You get a flavour of what is to come with respect to Floor and there are some really heavy riffs through out.
Weak Fantasy is next up. Fast start then goes quickly into a dreamy first verse. Again really heavy riffs through the chorus with powerful vocals. After a repeat of the chorus it’s Marco’s turn on lead vocals, with Floor regaining vocal control and the song takes another direction.
Elan was their first single and promoted quite heavily. Whilst being the “typical” folky Nightwish sound, this does not typify the sound of the album.
Derision on Social Media and the inter-webs about this, of course there are always going to be haters, see the greatest show on earth for my response to that, Nightwish to me are not a “singles” band so it is an OK introduction to the album still.
The album has some hooky tracks, Edema Ruh or My Walden the stand out tracks, and some heavy as f@ck riffing, such as Yours in an Empty Hope or the title track itself.
Our Decades in the Sun draw the obvious comparison with Ghost River purely since this is a ballad and really brings out the vocalist’s talent.
There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved
The Greatest Show on Earth is the best showcase of Nightwish possible. If you have half an hour to spare (24 minutes). It is truly amazing track broken down into 5 parts.
If you take the whole evolution thing seriously then this is really quite a moving piece. You realise the enormity of life itself and the insignificance of your own existence in the grand scale of things.
We are here to care for the garden
the wonder of birth
of every form most beautiful
I guess you can tell Marco Hietela’s influence on things, the toolmaker segment is again really powerful!!
We were here
I can’t get enough of this album right now. I cannot wait to see them in Tampere next month.
We are going to die
And that makes us the lucky ones
