So the article today should come as no surprise. Facebook has been collecting user data from the outset. There is a wealth of demographic data that has been harnessed by advertisers to target specific user types.
What is interesting is the accuracy that these results show but the article again highlights the potential threat to users privacy.
“This research should ring alarm bells for anyone who thinks that privacy settings are the solution to protecting information online. We need to fundamentally re-think how much data we are voluntarily sharing,” said Nick Pickles, director of privacy campaign group Big Brother Watch.
Maybe people are just not aware of what goes on when you like or share pages through Facebook . From my own PoV I usually warn people when I am making public posts and most of my “non-sense” posts are shared only with friends.
