Busy Month for www.skiffie.com

January has been probably the busiest month in its history in terms of traffic, updates, code fixes and downloads of the accessibility module. I have listed a few of the numerous changes for January.

Content Updates

New content includes:

  1. Date Drop Down List (code snippet)
  2. Drupal v6 - First thoughts
  3. Loaded Module Hack (code snippet)
  4. Site Advertising
  5. Accessibility Module in depth

Updated content includes:

  1. Tracker Module Hack
  2. Drupal v5 - First thoughts (bug fix)
  3. Help (added contact details)

A Google site search was also implemented this month. I figured that since Google has my site well indexed, why not use it (doesn't work in Safari). Content and update information can be seen in more detail on the tracker pages.

Accessibility Module Downloads

After complaining about the lack of interest in the module, January has been a good month. Downloads now exceed 600 with about 85% of all downloads being for Drupal v5. This is approximately 120 downloads in January. As previously stated development work on this module just hasn't happened since its initial release although a couple of bug fixes were uploaded this week to CVS. However, development work is under way from Drupal v6's version. Watch this space.

Look and Feel

Since the implementation of a new theme for the site at the start of the month I have been tweaking away at the custom style-sheets used. The site has been tested extensively in IE7, Firefox 2x and various versions of Opera, Safari and even old Netscape. Things seem to degrade fairly gracefully however I did notice the following from my visit to http://browsershots.org:

IE 5.5 suffered from the hasLayout bug. I managed to fix this fairly easily and the site looks pretty much the same in many different browsers. It seems that my detection script still needs a bit of work detecting users on MAC OS. I thought I had caught this problem previously: obviously not. You can see the screen-captures results here.

The print style-sheet has also been updated. There are a still a few more tweaks to add, but essentially everything is order.

Look out for more updates in the coming weeks, especially in regards to the accessibility module. To get the latest files, visit accessibility project pages.
